Repose (View from Mykonos)

Repose (View from Mykonos)

No.4: Repose (view from Mykonos) is filled with plants that are so quintessentially embedded in visions of Greece but if you dig just a little below the surface, you’ll find these plants are relics of colonization and the routes humans have taken across the globe. The bougainvillea, highly salt tolerant and so perfectly suited to bloom all over the Greek isles, is a South American native. Europeans documented their discovery of this plant as early as 1789, and colonizers did what they do best: covet and take something they admire and spread it across their colonized lands.

But the story isn’t all doom in this glorious sun-drenched sea view, the ability to take space and make home wherever it lands is the plants story of resilience and persistance. In this curated landscape the plants in this space are part of a story that embodies transition, movement and blooming wherever you may find yourself to be. To be able to take a moment of repose no matter how that came to be.
